It was a cold winter in Central Florida but that did not stop the newly connected Pedro Pan 'kids'
in Central Florida from warming up in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the exodus that created a common bond
in all of us.The weekend celebration commenced on Friday, March 5, 2010 with a Welcome Cocktail hosted by Justo and Clemencia
Martinez. This was followed by a dinner at the Heathrow Country Club on Saturday, March 6, 2010. The first time gathering
of Pedro Pans in Central Florida resulted in many reunions and getting to know each other. Jorge Rodon Arnaz, of
Mayor Richard Crotty's office presented the Pedro Pans with a Proclamation by Orange County, Florida of March 6, Operation
Pedro Pan Day! Aside from those in Central Florida, Pedro Pans in attendance came from all over the state; Ft.
Myers, Miami, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa, Ormond Beach, Titusville and even from Columbia, South Carolina.
This celebration was filled with warmth, joy and bittersweet memories! In the usual custom of Cubans, there were
many hugs and kisses to pass around. Truly a success!
